FAQ Family portraits

What do we wear?

I get it. This might seem like an unfathomable task. I hope these tips will help. Firstly, everyone needs to be comfortable, particularly the littlies. Dress for the season. Light clothing for summer, remember jumpers in winter. Perhaps bring a light wrap or jacket so you can change the look for different photos.

When it comes to choosing colours, sometimes, all it needs is to choose one favourite outfit (yours perhaps) and take inspiration from it for the rest of the outfits. If you have a patterned/floral item of clothing, incorporate some of those colours into the clothing for the rest of the family. The temptation may be to have everyone in a white t-shirt and denim. But why limit it to 2 colours when you can incorporate some similarly toned complimentary colours. :) Also, avoid pinstripes as they don't photograph well. I recommend you steer away from clothing with huge logos and keep accessories to a minimum.

At the end of the day, these photos are about you, your family and the connections you have. So relax in the knowledge that I will be working on getting the best out of everyone. My goal is to provide you will beautiful natural portraits that you will admire for years to come.

And if you're more of a visual person and would like to see some examples, I will be writing a blog to help you out... stay turned.

Wanting an extended family photoshoot?

You can upgrade your family session to include extended family members. In my experience, they're more agreeable when directed by someone other than a family member. ;)

There is an additional cost for extended family sessions but it's a bit of a bonus to have all the family put towards the session costs.

I love to include parents and grandparents, adult siblings with their partners and family. We all meet at one location, I take several big group photos and then photograph any other smaller groupings you would like. Allow up to 2 hours.

Choose 30 of your favourite images from a password protected gallery. If you can't decide on just 30, you can upgrade to have the images from the whole session.

Worried the kids won't be compliant?

I have two children of my own and worked with many different personalities. I'm not afraid to act the goat to get attention. Apart from being a bit of a clown sometimes, I also know that some kids don't like to stand still for long. And that's fine with me. I may ask your kids to race or ask you to spin your child around in your arms.

It's important to stay calm when your children seem unwilling to participate. Try and refrain from chastising or showing any disappointment. They sometimes take a little time to warm up to it. And that's why a full family session (rather than a mini-session) is sometimes preferable for small children, so we can get to know each other a little before we begin.

I'll ask you what your child enjoys, get you to bring their favourite toy or just let you snuggle with them on a blanket and take photos from a comfortable distance.

These and other little tricks are great to get belly laughs and make beautiful portraits. The ones you can't help smiling at whenever you look at them.

What happens after a session?

After the portrait session, I will upload your images into a password protected gallery and email you the link. Look through them at your leisure and mark favourites so you can return to them and review if you need to. Then let me know which images you have chosen and I can send you another link to the high resolution images that you can download directly from this website.

Can I get prints and products?

Perhaps you would like to have your walls adorned with your images, or have a book created for your child or older treasured family members to enjoy?
What is available:
• Professional quality prints (with or without a framing mount)
• Framed quality prints, either individual prints or a collection of images
• Acrylic blocks
• Albums
• Canvas prints
• Announcement cards
If you have something else in mind, let me know and I will see if I can source it for you.

Do you do mini sessions?

Throughout the year, I hope to be offering mini-sessions with a portion of the funds going to various charities.

Several time slots of 20 minutes will be available for small families and you will be able to choose 5 images to download from a password protected gallery on my website.

I will be announcing these on my Facebook and Instagram pages so stay tuned! This makes it a little easier to get updated portraits for the different stages of your family.

Note: Keep in mind that a full length portrait session might suit small children better as they sometimes take a little while to become comfortable.

FAQ Maternity

What stage of the pregnancy is best for maternity photos?

I recommend booking a maternity shoot between 28 and 36 weeks, or in the third trimester. Outdoor sessions are often best during the "golden hour" before sunset, when the light is softest.

Do you have outfits that I can use?

I am working on providing outfits and accessories like flower crowns for my maternity sessions. So stay tuned...

FAQ Lifestyle Newborn

Where does the session usually take place?

I can come to the hospital or to your home, giving you time to settle in with your new baby. The session can include other family members if you would like images with the babies siblings or close family visitors.

What does a home Lifestyle Newborn session look like?

I’ll bring along a few simple props, but it’s often more meaningful to use your own treasured items—such as special blankets or things you’ve chosen especially for your baby.

When I arrive, I’ll look for a spot in your home with beautiful natural light—perhaps the nursery or a cozy living area near a window—to capture relaxed, intimate portraits of you and your newborn.

If you’d like, we can also include special moments like your baby’s first bath, or sweet interactions with older siblings showering love on their new little brother or sister. Just let me know what moments are most important to you.

FAQ Weddings

How many images can I expect to receive?

That will depend on the hours of service, but on average, you can expect around 60 images per hour minimum with continuous coverage.

How many hours coverage is the most popular?

More and more, couples prefer to begin their professional photography coverage at the ceremony location. I typically start with a few portraits of the couple before they see each other, about 45 minutes prior to the ceremony. Afterward, I photograph the formal family portraits, the bridal party, and the couple’s entrance into the reception. Many couples also choose to schedule their cake cutting and first dance within the first half hour of the reception, before professional coverage concludes.

Of course, a great deal of care goes into bridal preparations, and some couples still like to include an hour of portraits before leaving for the ceremony. I always enjoy capturing these moments—especially when the location holds personal significance to the couple.
